A fresh new look and a greener stay at Radisson Blu Durham

Radisson Blu Durham’s refurbished rooms, plastic-free refillable water system and community-first approach.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes at Radisson Blu Durham. And we’re excited to share what’s new.

As part of our multi-million pound refurbishment, we’ve upgraded bedrooms, refreshed key guest areas and taken big steps toward becoming one of the most sustainable hotels in the North East.

Premium comfort inspired by Durham

The most recent phase of our transformation is focused on our bedrooms, starting with a full redesign of our fourth-floor executive collection. Think cosy new beds, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, Chromecast TVs, stylish bathrooms, and sleek mini fridges, all designed to make your stay in our Superior, Premium rooms and Suites even more comfortable.

Add to this our river view option overlooking the River Wear towards the cathedral and Durham’s iconic skyline and you have the perfect package.

We’ve now upgraded 83 out of 207 rooms, including a full décor refresh on the third floor and are looking forward to more to come.

Refillable water. No plastic bottles.

As part of our wider sustainability efforts, we’ve introduced stylish refillable water stations across our guest floors and meeting spaces. This is removing up to 9,000 plastic bottles every month from circulation.

So, when you stay with us, you’re not just enjoying a refreshed room, you’re helping us reduce waste, support the environment and shape how hotels can do better.

Designed for modern travellers

Guests are already choosing our upgraded rooms in greater numbers, and we’re seeing strong demand from business travellers, event delegates and leisure guests.

“It’s about elevating the guest experience without losing our Durham soul,” says Stuart Lloyd, General Manager. “These rooms aren’t just a place to sleep, they’re part of the experience. And by combining comfort with real sustainability, we’re creating something that feels both modern and meaningful.”

A hotel that’s part of Durham city

Elsewhere in the hotel, our riverside bar and restaurant ‘Jozef’s’ continues to grow in popularity. With consistent five-star TripAdvisor Reviews and offering a locally inspired menu Jozef’s serves up panoramic riverside views in a relaxed space to eat, drink or celebrate.

We’re also proud to support the local community through partnerships with Durham charities like St Cuthbert’s Hospice, schools, sports teams and social enterprises. Whether it’s hosting fundraising dinners, working to inspire young people, or welcoming local schools for prom night, we believe our hotel should be a space the whole city can feel proud of.
